Background:
Ruth Faktor was born in Ramat-Gan, Israel, in 1937. She studied ceramics with A. Doctor, Israel's leading sculptor, and Z. Guri, a noted ceramist in Israel.
From 1973 to 1977 Ruth studied at the Ramat-Gan Art School where she specialized in sculpture and modern art.
Her ceramic bas-reliefs range in size from small wall pieces to larger building ornaments. The ceramic reliefs are moulded of brown earthen local clay, fired to bisque at 900 degrees centigrade, hand-painted with different glazes, and fired a second time to 1,050 degrees centigrade.
The beauty of Ruth ceramics is in the many textures and finishes that each piece displays. Her images often reflect the themes of family and friendship. (Ruth is married with two children.)
The ancient Israeli cities of Jerusalem, Jaffa, and Cesarea are also depicted as themes of her ceramic reliefs. Another major theme is musical instruments and the musician.
Faktor’s works can be found in museums, galleries and private collections around the world.
